Secondary Course Structure

Recruitment

Applications for this course are managed through UCAS or DfE Apply. Your application will be assessed and candidates who meet the entry criteria will be invited to an interview (currently remote)

If you are offered a place on the course you will have 40 days to respond to the offer.

We will arrange your school placements and this information will be sent to you before the start of the course.

Term 1 Main Placement

You will be placed at your main placement school from the first day of the course in September. You will attend group training with other trainees at the SCITT centre in Buckingham on Wednesdays. The group training sessions cover all aspects of teaching. We also offer regular subject specific training sessions with subject specialist teachers. At the end of each half term you will present a summary of your evidence gained from your teaching practice to show how you are meeting the core standards of the Initial Teacher Training Core Framework.

Term 2 Second Placement

From the start of term in January you will be based at your second placement school. This is usually a contrasting school to your main placement and will allow you to deepen your understanding of the full breadth and depth of the Secondary curriculum for your specific subject with a different cohort

Term 2/3 Return to Main Placement

After February half term you will return to your main placement school. You will gradually begin to teach more lessons and add to your timetable. The course runs until the end of June when you will present your final summary of evidence to show that you meet the Teachers Standards. Following this you will be awarded QTS (Qualified Teacher Status)
