Postgraduate Teaching Apprenticeship
The Postgraduate Teaching Apprenticeship is a nationally recognised, work-based route into teaching. Our apprenticeship programme is a postgraduate-level qualification that allows you to earn a salary while you train, with no tuition fees for the apprenticeship itself.
Alongside working towards Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), you also have the option to complete a PGCE, subject to an additional fee.
Who the programme is for:
This route is available for prospective primary and secondary teachers across all subjects. It is particularly well suited to:
- Unqualified teachers
- Teaching assistants
- School staff seeking career progression into teaching
The apprenticeship provides a clear pathway to increased responsibility, professional recognition, and higher earning potential.
How the apprenticeship works:
-
You will be employed by a school throughout the programme, usually one where you already work or have an existing relationship.
-
Training combines classroom teaching, on-the-job learning, and professional studies sessions.
- You will work towards QTS, with the option to include a PGCE (additional cost applies).
Entry requirements
To be eligible for this route, you must have:
-
GCSE English and Mathematics at grade C/4 or above
-
Primary applicants must also have GCSE Science at grade C/4 or above
-
A BA or BSc degree
Availability and applications
Apprenticeship places are dependent on schools having suitable positions available. All vacancies are advertised when they become available, and applications are made through the DfE Apply system, in the same way as other postgraduate teacher training routes.
Information for Schools
We welcome enquiries from schools interested in hosting a postgraduate teaching apprentice and supporting staff to progress into qualified teaching roles. Please get in touch if you would like to discuss how we can support schools to appoint apprenticeships and how to advertise these roles.
