Support During Training

Equality, diversity and inclusion are embedded within our approach to trainee support. We value the different backgrounds, identities and experiences that trainees bring to the programme and recognise the important role these play in shaping inclusive and effective teaching practice.

Each trainee benefits from structured support from experienced mentors in school, alongside guidance from SCITT lead mentors who work closely with trainees across the year. Regular meetings, clear feedback and open communication ensure that trainees feel supported, respected and confident to raise any concerns.

Support is responsive and personalised. Where trainees have additional needs or require reasonable adjustments, we work collaboratively with trainees and placement schools to ensure support is consistent and inclusive. We actively encourage open dialogue and early disclosure, recognising that a trusting and respectful environment is central to positive trainee experience and wellbeing.

Our partnership schools share our commitment to inclusive practice. Through close collaboration, we ensure that trainees feel safe, valued and supported in every placement, enabling them to focus on developing their professional practice and meeting the diverse needs of pupils.

As a provider we take a proactive and personalised approach to supporting trainees, ensuring that individual needs are understood and met throughout training. Some of the ways we support trainees include:

School Access Plans – developed collaboratively with your SCITT Lead Mentor and shared with placement schools to ensure that reasonable adjustments are in place and tailored to your individual needs.

Trainee Inclusion Lunchtime Focus Groups – opportunities to meet with other trainees to discuss barriers to learning, share experiences and explore how the SCITT can support trainees and their pupils in overcoming these barriers.

Wellbeing Sessions – dedicated sessions that support trainee wellbeing and help develop strategies for managing workload, resilience and work–life balance.

Mental Health First Aid – SCITT staff are trained in mental health first aid, ensuring trainees have access to informed, timely and supportive guidance when needed.
